Cartier Armstrong: Corporate Trainer and Peer Mentor
Cartier Armstrong fell in love with training over a decade ago, as a financial services industry expert, specializing in mortgage servicing, collections, loss mitigation, and loan processing. As a Corporate Trainer and Unit Manager with HSBC, Ms. Armstrong is most passionate about employee development, working with individuals and teams in engaging ways, showcasing her skills to help others improve their job performance.
Ms. Armstrong moved quickly through the ranks at HSBC, starting as a mortgage specialist in 2008, when she began learning state laws and instructor-led training, leading to her promotion just two years later to Senior Mortgage Specialist and Corporate Trainer. In 2013, Ms. Armstrong was promoted to Interim Unit Manager and has been a permanent Unit Manager since 2015.
In her current role as Corporate Trainer and Unit Manager for HSBC financial services, having trained dually for five and a half years, Ms. Armstrong coaches employees on work proficiency and setting and meeting team and site goals. Daily performance indicator reviews guide her coaching, ensuring employees apply what they learn and reach targets.
She regularly manages and develops a 7 – 12-person team and has been responsible for nominating 5 – 6 candidates each year for the company’s “All Star Awards”, a monetary and cross-site recognition award she has won 4 times, herself. Other training has included coaching HSBC collection agents, listening in on collection calls, providing corrective action, verbal queues, and assessing productivity where needed. Ms. Armstrong has also served in HSBC’s Junior Achievement program, a volunteer program that taught financial literacy to youth in a classroom setting.
Ms. Armstrong’s training and development efforts have resulted in approximately $100,000 in revenue generated, per employee trained, to date. Simultaneously, she has collected over $1 million in revenue per month in her role as Unit Manager.
A Chicago native, Ms. Armstrong became the first member of her family and friendship circle to attend college, majoring in Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with an emphasis in Planning and Administration. During her tenure at the University, she was an active member of Women of Color, an organization fostering interaction among women of color on campus, performing community service and presenting programs of talents together. Ms. Armstrong currently resides in Dolton, Illinois.
Outside work, Ms. Armstrong proudly parents her 9-year old brother, whom she adopted as a newborn, and has overcome obstacles from a young age, despite personal adversities. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, painting, and spending time with family. She also spends time keeping abreast of the banking industry culture and climate, via LinkedIn articles discussing reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and bank wins.
In the future, she wishes to travel as she trains, eventually becoming Director of Development within a financial services industry company. She defines her B.E.S.T. life as being financially secure, surrounded by friends and family.
